How Do I Start?
Get the most out of your Altrusa membership by participating in club projects and activities! Altrusa is a social organization that performs service.
You can:
- Attend club meetings and share your voice in discussions and decisions.
- Participate in club service projects –there are lots of options!
- Identify a need in your community and suggest a hands-on project to address it.
- Help with existing or help create new projects.
- Attend club social events, we have periodic fun events to relax, network and get to know one another.
- Serve on different club committees over time, try out different focus areas that you’re interested in.
- Ask questions of your Sponsor and other Altrusans to keeping learning more about Altrusa.
- Accept leadership roles in your club to develop leadership skills transferrable to all areas of life.
- Serve on the club, District or International level, if you’re interested in leadership growth.
- Grow as a community leader.
- Make a difference.
- Make new friends!
One of the great things about Altrusa that sets us apart from other similar organizations is that Altrusa clubs have the autonomy to tailor their projects and fundraising efforts to meet the unique needs of their communities—because when it comes to service, one size definitely doesn’t fit all. This flexibility ensures their impact remains both relevant and meaningful at the local level.
Where Can I Meet Other Altrusans?
One of the most satisfying elements of being an Altrusan is the friendships that you make! Our club, district and global network makes it easy to expand your contacts and friendships with Altrusans in your community and around the world!
- Attend your local club meetings, committee meetings and community service projects
- Sit next to a different person at each meeting
- Help create and attend fun themed club social events
- Attend District regional events, socials and workshops
- Attend the Altrusa District Nine Conference, held in April each year
- Attend the Altrusa International Convention, held every other year in locations around the globe
- Volunteer to serve on an Altrusa Richardson, District Nine or International Committee
- Get involved in one of your club’s international service projects
- When you’re traveling, contact a local club and visit their meeting or event
- Connect with other Altrusans through Facebook, LinkedIn or other social media channel(s)
- Utilize our District's ClubRunner membership contact information and reach out to other District Nine members to visit or chat
